Art is a powerful tool for developing critical thinking skills. When we closely observe and thoughtfully respond to art, we make informed interpretations based on visual evidence. As we share our thoughts and observations with others, we consider alternative viewpoints and revise our thinking. In this workshop, teachers will take part in questioning strategies and activities designed to elevate the level of students’ thought and analysis.

Presented by:

Sara Shaw is a classroom and museum educator and the current Coordinator of the Education Resource Center at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She studied art history at Oberlin College and the University of Pennsylvania and has an M.S.Ed. in Elementary Education from Penn’s Graduate School of Education. She has more than a decade of experience teaching students of all grades, PreK-8, in Philadelphia public, charter, and private schools, as well as mentoring and training other educators. Her current position at the PMA allows her to continue that work in the Art Museum setting and to create and publish arts integration teaching resources.
